2008 Dream Purchases List
Carefully considering things I want in the new year. I should be able to realistically get quite a few of these as long as I don’t have an employment mishap, which has happened in the past. But, c’mon. We’re going into 2008 with a positive attitude. Hell yeah! (And, not having kids makes it a lot easier to free up funds. Though, animal companions can be expensive but worth it!)...

Five random mall thoughts
No one wants shit from Things Remembered. The sooner we all admit and accept that, the sooner the stores can close. “Personalized gifts?” How about listening to what people actually want and going out to get a real personal item. Engraving my name on a cheap ass jewelry box is not something I would ever want. There is an unspoken system of walking and meandering through a mall. Maybe...

Loot scored today
The last couple of years, the after Christmas sales have not been stellar, at least in relation to my desires and needs. Well, more desires than actual needs. However, today I got some great buys including these adorable and versatile wellies from T.J. Maxx. I have wanted some for years but never found any that fit the bill (cute but inexpensive). Other treasures acquired today: From Von Maur -...

…and thought about how many of my true top picks have been around a while. They have long, established libraries of amazing music. Tori Amos. David Gray. Elliott Smith (too bad he isn’t still around). Aqualung doesn’t fit in to that categorization. He’s had two commercial releases only - Strange and Beautiful and Memory Man. After I fell in total love with the former, his...

Oh, how I adore thee, Mr. Gray. →
I ordered David Gray’s newest release, A Thousand Miles Behind, from his web site in early October. It’s a live compilation of covers (including Dylan, Cash and Springsteen). It was coming from overseas since it isn’t in the US yet. So I had to be patient (which I am NOT). After a few weeks, I inquired about the delay. Lost in the mail, we assumed. She said she’d get...

OK. I already started purchasing things I had...
But, I have an excuse. Do you ever research your options online to buy the exact same product from, say, five different places? There might be a few dollars separating the retailers from one another. Usually, a great deal on shipping (free over $50) or previous favorable customer service experience makes the final choice for me. Well, upon visiting Unica Home, I found that a shopping basket I have...

Not sure how to find magic? Start with a list.
I don’t usually wax nostalgic, much to the chagrin of some of my friends and family (most of them, actually). Although I certainly have wonderful memories of holidays past, things have simply changed. I think that recalling memories of the past as the best times of my life can be depressing. Worse yet, it can make the future a lot less exciting because you might say that you will never recover...

Pop? Maybe. Beautiful? Yes.  →
I admit that I like Kelly Clarkson. I dig her voice. And, yes, I know that she is very popular. However, her least pop song is ”Irvine.” Very haunting. The lyrics, tone of her voice, simplicity and way the song trails off at the end is reminiscent of a slow fading death. Bloodletting by music. ***** Irvine Are you there? Are you watching me? As I lie here on this floor They say you...

Cremaster Trailer →
Matthew Barney is an artistic genius. Very unusual, indeed. To describe his work would be pretentious and highly inaccurate. You must simply view and absorb it on your own.  Draw your own conclusions. I call it unsavory beauty. Welcome nightmares. Wondrous dreamscapes. But, maybe it is best to say that it is unsettling. And, due to the state of this world nowadays, few things strike this cynical...

Dennis Miller is hilarious. Seriously.
Conversation from The O’Reilly Factor, 12/12/07  Bill O’Reilly: “Finally, the permissive parenting. We had this on earlier in the program where you now have 11-year-old girls taking naked pictures of themselves and sending it to their boyfriend, and it pops up on the Internet. According to police in Syracuse, New York, many of the parents were angry with police for even bringing this...

Run to the nearest Wild Oats/Whole Foods immediately and purchase any of the Zuzu Luxe products, a vegan line of cosmetics that has GREAT staying power and offers a diversely rich color palette.  My favorites right now are the following: Indigo Eyeliner - a rich eggplanty purple that looks good with almost any eye shadow Bella Donna Blush - a hot metallic wine that goes on as a natural flush on...

Falling slowly or with momentum. I can't figure...
This is a scary looking picture of me. It seems indicative of my state of mind right now. At any given time in the last few weeks I have felt as though I am hurling through space where I will inevitably crash into the pavement resulting in a bloody, bony mess. I am sure we all feel this way at various points in our lives. Sometimes, it really does seem like I contribute very little to the lives...

Quick 5 list: Go buy these. Now.
Moments of pure originality, light and introspection… Feist - The Reminder (“The Limit to Your Love” and “How My Heart Behaves” - amazing on many levels) Amy Winehouse - Frank (“Stronger Than Me” - a real conversation with a man and some ’tude; yes, she’s nuts but wicked talented) Hurt - Vol. II (like a grinding machine of ebb and flow; very...

I had heard of Teavana before but never tried their products until I found myself in Vegas in September at another trade show for work. I strolled over to Fashion Show Mall, making quick stops at LeSportsac and Paul Frank before reaching the store. With a co-worker, I walked to each sample station in the place cooing and singing the praises of the intense flavors. I was giddy. Do not be scared...

Paul Reubens...take me to dinner. Please.
Paul Reubens (aka Pee-wee Herman) is actually very interesting. He’s weird. He’s NOT Pee-wee. He’s got a record (hot). He is deliciously strange in interviews (with his odd comedy and slightly unsettling, sinister smile). He’s a bit of a hermit in real life. And, cue drum roll…he has donated a vegetarian lunch package for two with him to Farm Sanctuary for their...

Trying to extract meaning
I have decided to jump on the tumblr bandwagon. Somehow, I feel an official blog is too complicated. This seems easier. More stream of consciousness. However, for those few of you who love me or loathe me, you can either try to empathize with me, delight in my misfortune or simply allow me to write. Short original poems may appear here. Brief animal anecdotes will periodically show up....
