2008 - My Life Defined through Music
So, the best way for me to make a statement about 2008 is to tell you what music has left an impression on me. The following is a lengthy list of my treasured musical purchases of the year and a comment or two about why I think so. (Note: I usually buy the whole release/album/CD via iTunes. For brevity, I have highlighted some of my favorite songs on most full length releases.) Adele -...

For those of you who prefer to reflect
juliaallison: Thanks to Mary Schmich of the Chicago Tribune for this!  She publishes something about reflecting every New Years, and this one is from 2007, I’ve just changed the date.  Fill it out, seriously.  I’m going to.  I promise you won’t regret doing it. YEAR IN REVIEW - 2008 When you consciously review your year, you may notice how little you noticed it as it whizzed past. To review is...

Most ridiculous law ever
According to a segment on Fox News tonight about bizarre U.S. laws, in Montana it is “illegal to sell, harbor or give away rats as pets or toys unless they are fed to birds of prey or snakes.” Nice. Another reason I won’t be visiting MT. ;)

It's really all so petty.
Often, it seems like we all exist to complain and seek more. We cannot be satisfied. It’s about the bigger house, newer car, 25 handbags, designer clothes. I am not judging. I suffer from the same disease to want things. But, my best friend’s 13-year-old son died from a brain tumor two days before Christmas, when things quickly plummeted. He was about to start radiation next week....

Eight reasons I smiled today
OK. So, in light of the melancholy of the previous post, I still firmly believe you have to take stock in things that make you happy. Here were eight of my little victories or wonderments today. I found out that my Mophie Juicepack and Dr. Cow’s Cheese are in route to my house. I don’t have any sick animals right now. I found out that Christmas day is pretty uneventful. Other than a...

The truth
I was out today. The roads were slippery. I shuffled through Target amongst people complaining and wandering about in an aimless and perplexed way. I listened to podcasts in the car (Rissington, MacBreak). I gathered essentials in Pet Supplies Plus for “Bunny” (I almost never call him by his rightful name, Sherwood) and various other treats for fur people. I watched the final night for...

Get a head start.
Weightbot is a great iPhone app that tracks your current weight and where you are in relation to your goal. It’s not fancy or complicated by stuff you won’t use. Beautifully executed in form and function, it’s on sale for a limited time ($.99). I love its simplicity and the execution of the graphing capability. Two vegan thumbs up.

Kaya - R.I.P. 12/14/08
Kaya was with me a very short period of time, less than four months. It seemed like so much longer because she had a wonderful way of nestling into your heart quickly. All of my rats have been incredible in their own individual ways. Kaya was sweet and social from day one. She loved everyone and everything. Like most rats, she was afraid of nothing and curious about people and animals. This girl...

Christmas List for Mom
I had a hard time coming up with a list this year. Mom always likes to get me something special. So, here were my suggestions. I would enjoy anything on the list. (Yes, bras can be awesome as gifts once you know your size and the brands that fit well. Thanks Isabella’s!) Last Night's Dream
I dream. A lot. Last night, I was preparing and selling deep fried apple slices out of one of those traveling trailers at a carnival or summer festival. I usually know what my dreams mean. I have no idea what this is trying to tell me. Somewhere deep in the meaning, I am sure, is some indication that temptation (symbolized as the apple) is calling to me, or more literally, that I am serving it...
