Silhouette of a grasshopper.
My sweet little companion, Aesop.
For those of you who don’t know, I have a grasshopper living in my kitchen. I found her in my crisper, wrapped up in collard greens. She had been there for a full week. I thought she was dead. She was missing a back leg and moved very slowly.
Let’s just say that Aesop lives a charmed life in the midst of a cold winter. She receives good food and has interesting things where she can exercise (hanging fruit baskets, window screen, grippy ceiling). Plus, a nutty human talks to and photographs her all the time.
She has outlived the typical 1-2 month lifespan. It’s all pretty awesome.
